WHAT IS ALHOUSH.COM?

The word alhoush means "courtyard" in Arabic. It is a place that has always been central to households in the Near East, as it is the meeting point that gathers family members around a physical and moral space.

alhoush.com is both a physical and virtual expo of Arab art and design: a common space that allows the public to purchase from and interact with the design and art community.

TWO TRACKS

alhoush.com will achieve its objectives through two primary activities:

Creating a traveling exhibit and forum that will not only attract all the successful and emerging designers and artists to discuss the latest developments, but will also sell their works in a massive expo organized annually.

Creating an extensive e-commerce web portal where the works are sold and shipped around the world.

 WHY IS ALHOUSH.COM IMPORTANT?

The Arab world faces tremendous challenges, not the least of which is the fact that needs to create a 100 million jobs within the upcoming ten years. We fundamentally believe that art and design can play a central role in rising to this challenge. 

alhoush.com is an enterprise that serves as a centre for the preservation and development of Arab art and design. By art and design, alhoush.com means four central pillars:

A central pillar for the success of alhoush.com is its network of ambassadors throughout the Arab world. A highly exclusive position, the ambassador plays a crucial leadership role in connecting with alhoush’s artists in his or her country, identifying new artists and designers, assistance in the follow-up and logistics when needed, as well as representing and promoting alhoush’s community at all levels.

As an expression of gratitude to their dedication, alhoush.com’s ambassadors are invited to attend and participate at the annual alhoush expo with all expenses (ticket and accommodation) paid by alhoush.com. The expos will be a notable international event and forum (on a massive scale) involving 300 artists and designers from 22 countries, as well as a plethora of speakers and art collectors.

FOUNDERS

Alhoush.com was co-founded by Ehab Shanti and partners who are passionate and deeply committed to art and design as means to development. 

Ehab Shanti is a communications expert with over 20 years of experience. He is the President and Founder of Amandla Group (www.amandlagroup.com), which is a strategic communications consulting firm based in Amman and covering the MENA region. Prior to this, he worked as the Head of Communications of the UNDP in Jerusalem, where he served as the Spokesperson of one of the most sensitive offices of the UN. Called by Al-Quds Newspaper as “the dynamite of the artistic movement,” Mr. Shanti has carried out numerous successful artistic and cultural events that attracted international attention including several art auctions and exhibitions in Jerusalem and Dubai. A Canadian of Arab origin, Mr. Shanti has completed most of his education in Canada and holds a Masters of Public Administration (MPA) from Dalhousie University and several BA’s from Carleton University in Art History, Political Science, and Interdisciplinary Studies (High Honors).  Mr. Shanti has extensive experience in communications and campaign organization including founding the Amandla Forum.
