Hani Amra

Country: Palestinian Territory, Occupied
Nationality: Palestinian

Hani Amra’s re-constructed and profoundly surreal photographs are as real for anyone who experienced living in the occupied Palestinian territory as night and day. They are a loud meditation on the travesty of daily injustices experienced by any Palestinian who resides in East Jerusalem. The image of Jerusalem with incredibly diverse yet stereotypic images of figures from all religions and across all spectrums is a highly satiric statement about the madness of the city. Indeed, one is reminded of Freud’s description of Jerusalem as “the centre of insanity around the world.” Yet, insanity aside, the artist is somehow saying that all these extremes have to live together in this shared space.
